Twitter and Blackboard discussions have similarities in the sense that both are used in communicating with other through posts and replies. Through Blackboard, students enrolled in the same class are able to read each other posts and communicate with each other, as well as give feedback. Of course there is not much exposure besides the classmates that are taking the same course. Twitter offers the same, if not similar functions, but is able to offer more features for a more interactive platform. One main difference is the use of followings and followers. You follow someone because you are interested in the content they provide, and want to be updated daily if they ever post a new tweet. Some of the features Twitter users have are the use of likes, retweets and quote retweets. Using these features enable tweet to be seen by people who many not follow you, which gives your content more exposure. In addition, with the use of hashtags, tweets are easily categorized to find content one is particularly interested in. All in all, Twitter seems like a better option to have discussions with the features they are able to offer.
Privacy and confidentiality continues to be a main issues through the use of new media. The increased use of digitalized media has raised concerns on who might see their personal info or who might have access to their personal accounts. Hacking has become a big issue in digital age. There is always the risk of information being released without one's permission when providing information to companies because of uncertainty of events that may happen. In the article, "Target works on security-heavy credit cards, after breach," Target mentions they experienced a security breach and that led to the leak and exposure of 110 million customers of their personal information and credentials. They have aimed to encrypt user personal data, so it is harder to hack. Another issues is that social Media websites may have a complicated system of rules in order to keep certain posts or photos private. A great example showcasing this is Facebook. I agree with the fact twitter is a great option to have discussions, but I think for school related discussions, blackboard is better because it is more focused and aimed towards educational purposes.
