Blog: Social Networking Sites

The four sites I have decided to discuss are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. I have been an active user for these social networking sites and there are noticeable differences between each of these sites, but the main purpose through all four is the ability to communicate with others no matter where you are in the world! All four of these social media platforms implement the use of hashtags for user to easily find what they are looking for.

Facebook is one of the main places where I keep in touch with friends and family. With its handy app of messenger, you are able to communicate with anyone for free as long as there is internet access. Other features of Facebook include group pages, where members of the same interest. One in particular that I am apart of is "subtle asian traits," where Asians would share their experiences of being a first-generation immigrant in the forms of jokes and memes. It has been a great way to connect meet with other people who share similar experiences.

Twitter is something that I don't often use, but it is something I have recently become more aware of. It has been a great way to catch up with the news that happens around the world. With the search page on Twitter, content is divided into six sections and can easily be found through the use of keywords and hashtags.

Youtube is social media platform, where users are encouraged to post videos to communicate with the audience. The use of comments engages the audience with the video content and talking to others about the specific video. A connection is built on Youtube when users subscribe to their favorite channels and they visit regularly for more. I am often on Youtube watching people make video blogs about their lives and it's interesting to see how others live.

Instagram is more focused on encouraging people to share their personal lives through posting videos and photos. With the use of likes and comments on posts, people can easily engage with others. With the introduction of stories, users are able to post their post daily content, ask questions, post poll, and much more! With the increasing amount of users on this app, many business are starting to view Instagram as a platform they can use to sell and promote their products.

Blog: New Next

A type of new media that does not exist to this day is the constant use of virtual reality in everyday environments. Currently, virtual reality exists, but on the aspects that it is mostly seen to be used for  entertainment features. With little development to this field, it is hard to imagine a world where we are constantly using this for convenience. However, I believe it is possible to implement the use of virtual reality for other fields, such as education. Some aspects of education that can be implemented is a virtual field trip, where students are able to imagine the environment of being in a different place. This can also be super beneficial for distance learning too because one may like to experience the aspects of learning in a classroom and this can be done through virtual reality. Another application to virtual reality that can be potentially added is the use of exercising environments. Due to the arising pandemic, it has been harder for people to exercise outside or vis...

Blog: Wiki So Far

Through the use of Baruch's New Media wiki site, there have been various topics that have interested me such as Gaming and Retail. I was interested in writing about Animal Crossing: New Horizons because of the hype surrounding the game ever since it was released on the Nintendo Switch. With first hand experience on game-play, I thought it was would useful to provide information as well as research everything the game has to offer. I have added this game under the Nintendo Switch section in Gaming. I think this game can relate to New Media because it gives a different form of communication to interact with others around the game. I intend to possibly research about another game to add into the Gaming section. Another section that I have added material to is Retail. I have added additional information under the Uniqlo App. The information that was currently listed in the wiki seemed outdated as Uniqlo does not currently offer anything listed there. I've researched the app...

Blog: P2P

File Sharing is the use of an internet connection in order to transfer data from one person to another. With the ability to share files across the internet, one is able to receive data regardless of their location. It is certainly common for users nowadays to be sending files using online features, as it is more convenient. An example is the use of Google Drive. Google Drive gives the ability for users to upload documents, photos, music files, and more to share it with other individual users through either email or a direct link of the folder.  On the other hand , P2P File sharing (peer to peer file sharing) is the act of using a P2P software program with a direct connection between two people on a network to gain access to media files such as movies, tv shows and books. A widely known software for P2P sharing it BitTorrent. These files are often known to be distributed for free. There is always a risk of distributing files in this format because not all files are legal. I...
