Social networking has been a powerful source in connecting people together, whether it is business related or used on a personal level. We are basically surrounded by the world of technology, where we can't go one day without using social media or the Internet in general. One way social networking has benefited society is through job recruitments. One of these examples is Linkedin, which networks millions of professionals together. In the article, " Social Networking Boosts Job Recruiting," LaSpina says, "I was impressed by that, that someone reached out to me, with a position and looked at my background and realized there might be a fit here." Without physically meeting someone beforehand, one is able to look for jobs that interest them and connect with people who may be working there to get more insight about the company.
Social networking is generally a public area, so almost anything you post onto the internet can be viewed by anyone and everyone. People generally want to update their friends publicly on social media and connect with each other, but sometimes negative effects such as privacy come into play. One of the many sites that deals with this issue is Facebook. It seems that there are ways to limit who see your profile, but it is more complicated than it seems. In "Facebook Privacy is So Confusing Even the Zuckerberg Family Photo Isn't Private," it discusses Randi Zuckerberg posting a photo where she thought it would be only limited to HER friends seeing it, but it ended up being accessible to her friends as well as the friends of the people tagged in the photo. It's important to realize that anything posted publicly will have a good chance of getting viewed by someone you may not know and it's good to be cautious of what you post online.
As technology evolves in the future, I believe that privacy itself will always remain has one of the main issues in social networking. However, technology is constantly evolving to become better and has constantly improved the lives of people and society. With easy access to information and better communication between people, we are constantly able to connect with people around the world.
