Virtual world is the ability for people to do things without physically going somewhere. One is able to experience these things through a screen. One way where virtual worlds have be implemented is virtual working. In the article, "Going to the virtual office in Second Life," Tutton describes the ability to hold virtual meetings. He also says, "Not only did we save time, because the environment was so engaging, a lot more ideas came in." People have the ability to not just stay in the office and feel like they are trapped inside. They have the freedom to explore and think about ideas while exploring the environment around them.
Another way where virtual worlds can be used is a virtual classroom. With all the technology available, one is able to learn from multiple Internet sources to find information they need. These days, because of the coronavirus, many schools and colleges have converted to online learning, where classes are having group video calls to teach a lesson. Some of the advantages to a virtual classroom is mentioned in "The advantages and disadvantages of the virtual classroom and the role of a teacher." cost, time and the fact that everything would be digitalized in terms of submitting homework and doing assignments. When classes are held in the comfort of one's home, students can save money and time on commuting to and from school. With saving time, students are able to spend more time working on work or projects instead of taking the bus or train for 2 hours. Disadvantages to this type of virtual world is that "Internet teaching goes against the traditional method of teaching." Many teachers are use to teaching in person and feel more comfortable in that environment. When switching to online teaching, many teachers must structure their classes in a way that students are able to learn from home and are given the right resources. In recent days, coronavirus has forced many professors to switch to online learning, which gave teachers experience difficulty when they were no time to transition their classes and change their structure of the class to meet online learning needs.
Virtual worlds also have the ability to foster creativity because they can experience things that may not be available to one in a room setting. For example, in "The virtual world moves into the classroom," students have the ability to use virtual reality devices to experience other parts of the world. In the article it states, "After a few minutes, the scene changes and you're suspended high above London." Students are given the ability to experience the environment of other countries by looking at landscapes and buildings through a virtual reality device without leaving a classroom setting.
The future of virtual worlds will continue to innovate and change the world on how we are able to learn and discover new things. Technology is always changing for the better and constantly evolving to improve our lives for the better. Virtual worlds gives the opportunity for others to learn and explore new ideas through a virtual experience in one's own comfort.
