A type of new media that does not exist to this day is the constant use of virtual reality in everyday environments. Currently, virtual reality exists, but on the aspects that it is mostly seen to be used for entertainment features. With little development to this field, it is hard to imagine a world where we are constantly using this for convenience. However, I believe it is possible to implement the use of virtual reality for other fields, such as education. Some aspects of education that can be implemented is a virtual field trip, where students are able to imagine the environment of being in a different place. This can also be super beneficial for distance learning too because one may like to experience the aspects of learning in a classroom and this can be done through virtual reality. Another application to virtual reality that can be potentially added is the use of exercising environments. Due to the arising pandemic, it has been harder for people to exercise outside or visit their local fitness center. Virtual reality implementing this type of environment can add a new dimension to working out and motivate people to exercise more.
File Sharing is the use of an internet connection in order to transfer data from one person to another. With the ability to share files across the internet, one is able to receive data regardless of their location. It is certainly common for users nowadays to be sending files using online features, as it is more convenient. An example is the use of Google Drive. Google Drive gives the ability for users to upload documents, photos, music files, and more to share it with other individual users through either email or a direct link of the folder. On the other hand , P2P File sharing (peer to peer file sharing) is the act of using a P2P software program with a direct connection between two people on a network to gain access to media files such as movies, tv shows and books. Hi Erika, .. interesting thought on the application of virtual reality in education. I am into technology and the main reason that got me attracted is the "democratization" it brought. Another cool thing with technology is the great economies of scale it offers. For example there is a specific cost in creating a movie, but once it is done there is almost no additional cost associated with reaching every individual customer. That lead to the membership business model Netflix and other streaming platforms have adopted. So, I would love to see how much Harvard or other expensive colleges will cost in a world with VR capabilities.
